Non-profits in Western North Carolina:
Jackson County Family Resource Center
This was a remake of a site built and hosted by another business. Ginger Hill is the Director of the Family Resource Center and was amazed at how easy it is to update and edit this site, saving her organization hundreds dollars per year. This site uses one of the most dynamic Wordpress themes available and can be personalized in many ways.
The Coalition started in the fall of 2008 formed from a diverse group of organizations working on homeless issues in the county. In the early days of the organization, the website provided key communication tools in getting the word out, and has even raised some funds through the site. This a basic Wordpress site with a few graphic tweaks and a javascript installed.
This group started in January 2009 working on issues of the poor and homeless in Jackson County. They are still working on what they need the website to do, but it will be essential in their work next winter. It is a basic Wordpress theme that can be adapted to other colors, fonts, and would look better with more graphics.
Haywood County Schools Foundation
We were approached with a need to set-up a donation page online similar to what we did with the Haywood Coalition. There are all kinds of possibilities that the Foundation is considering. This a basic HTML page with some graphics and a Javascript installed. It was created in 45 minutes to an hour after the basic information was received.
This is a website based on HTML that was developed for the Elder SAFE program at the 30th Alliance that is used daily by folks all across the region (and country) looking for information about elder abuse. It is managed through Dreamweaver and could be a model for a small business or group that has the software and a person that is willing to learn some of the more complicated issues of website design.
Personal sites:
Michael Rich has been writing and blogging for years. This is a site that deals mostly with religious and devotional topics. It is visited over a hundred times per day and gets nearly 700 unique visitors per month. This site uses a basic Wordpress theme and the headers were constructed from photographs of the author.
Gardening is Michael Rich’s passion. He is a published garden writer in Western North Carolina with clips in The Mountaineer, Smoky Mountain News, and numerous websites. This is his “fun” site that incorporates a little bit of everything that a Wordpress site can do. A site can easily have audio, video, photos and combinations of media in both main posts and sidebars. It has taken awhile to incorporate all of these features, but once developed, it is easy to add a video clip or an audio file to the website.
Others:
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Canton
This is a website at a local church that needed an interim fix until the hosting contract ends in October. There will be a new dynamic, content management system website contructed then.
